Jim Rodgers interest in photographer started at an early age. When he began photography in his hometown of Chicago, he used a simple Kodak camera. While attending high school in New York City, he used a Rolleicord Twin Lens Reflex camera and did his own darkroom work. Surrounded by art and culture in New York City, Rodgers developed his artistic craft and was greatly inspired by the collections in the Museum of Modern Art.
As his skills improved, Rodgers began processing B&W film and later began to use Photoshop for development. His work includes literal, abstract and composite pieces in a range of subject matter. Throughout the years that he’s lived in Las Cruces, he has cultivated a deep love for the environment and community which is reflected in his work.
Rodgers’ photos are a part of the permanent collection at Pace University in New York City. He has won many awards for his work, the most recent being first place prize in the annual 2019 New Mexico Magazine contest. Jim’s work has been shown in many galleries including Preston Fine Art, Rio Grande Theater, Branigan Cultural Center, Southwest Environmental Center, Greenspace, Center for Spiritual Living and Main Street galleries.
