I relocated from central Ohio to New Mexico in 2000, seeking refuge both from a faculty position that wore me out, and the cold, grey days of winter. I sought a place and lifestyle that would inspire me and allow me to explore different parts of myself, still untapped, including various art media. Along the way I’ve taken classes in jewelry design, ceramics, and fiber arts.

My quilts and wall hangings have been shown at the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta, Las Colcheras Quilt Show, and the West End Art Depot. I am relatively new to watercolor and painting.

I retired* in summer 2014. For about 43 years, I taught classics and Latin, comparative literature and women’s studies, at first at the secondary level and then at several universities. I also spent many years in higher education program coordination and grants administration and development. In addition to my share of scholarly and report writing, I co-authored a book on West Texas women artists. Now “jubilada,” I plan to pursue my own own creative pathways wherever the inspiration and different media may take me and to support others in their artistic endeavors.

*I prefer the Spanish word “jubilarse” because it suggests the joyful new beginnings that retirement brings.
