1. What are some of the political challenges that you’ve faced during this pandemic? Have there been roadblocks or has there been anything unexpected in the process of navigating this situation?
2. Do you have any advice that you could share with city council members of similar towns from your experiences here in Las Cruces? Are there best practices you’ve been following?
3. Do you have any advice for any medical personnel, hospitals, doctors, or care facilities that may be considering partnering with local governments? Is there anything that they can do to enhance the communication process and make sure that everything works as seamlessly as possible?
4. What will our new normal look like in Las Cruces for the next 12 – 18 months?
5. In addition to this COVID-19 crisis we have experienced an awareness of extreme racism in America, Are you aware of any racism issues in the cities departments? What is your message about the issue?

Biography
Early Life
Tessa Abeyta-Stuve is a native New Mexican who was raised in Los Alamos. She was drawn to Las Cruces via New Mexico State University and received her bachelor’s degree in Government in 2009.
Family
Tessa met her future husband, Todd, while working together at a local restaurant. In 2008, they welcomed twin boys, Elliot and Lucas. In 2013, the Stuves completed their family with the addition of their daughter, Persephone.
In 2020, Tessa will begin her first term in office for Las Cruces City Council. She is proud to be raising her family in such a vibrant and diverse district.
Employment
Tessa works very hard to instill a family motto in her children, “Be a good human and make the world a better place”. It was from this motto that as the children grew, Tessa worked to become a community advocate. She has served on numerous boards including the Executive Board of Directors of the Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce, Border Servant Corps, and the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) of her children’s elementary school.
Tessa worked as a lobbyist for the Child Advocacy Centers (CAC), where she was instrumental in helping pass legislation to place the CACs in the statute. She also worked to secure funding for them and the New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs.
